Pop!_OS is a Linux distro from System76, a company best known for making a variety of Linux computers. Pop!_OS is marketed towards data scientists, programmers and similar, but it is likely to suit a much more extensive range of people. Below I will share my thoughts on what makes Pop!_OS so nice to use for me, and about tiling which has been introduced with 20.04. Pop!_OS, what I like about it I am running Pop!
The Philips OLED754 UHD TV comes in both 55 and 65-inch variants and stands out due to its price usually being below €1100/£1000 with it frequently being even cheaper for Black Friday and other events. Then there is the fact that it supports more HDR (high dynamic range) standards than most TVs released in 2019 and featuring the exclusive Ambilight technology. In this price range, this TV faces competition in particular from the LG B9 with these TVs often very close in price depending on offers.
The BitDefender Box 2 is a device that promises to help the security of your network, in particular with all the IoT devices that fill the typical home these days. The key features it advertises are detecting anomalous behaviour from devices, protecting users from malware and phishing in addition to the usual parental control features and blocking users from sending sensitive data over insecure connections. This product sounded interesting to me, and I felt the extra layer of protection may be useful for my parents.
There is no advertising on Tom’s Thoughts and no trackers from the major analytics providers such as Google or Adobe. We do use analytics from the open source tool Matomo. Matomo is used as it can provide useful insights into what content appears to be most useful for people which can help shape what works and what does not. Matomo is also used because it is a privacy respecting service which does not aggregate data from millions of websites like other services do, but please read the Matomo privacy policy here.
Tom’s Thoughts was created as an avenue to aleviate some boredom from the Covid-19 lockdown. The main aim is to have some fun writing about things that interest me and I think may be of interest to others. I hope that a few others may stumble across this blog and find something that is useful to them.
